But it takes a lot of practice, patience, and dedication to be a ” good guitarist “. Only gifted musicians can really be as advanced in playing like you do (or any other good musician…. ) I know, since i have a brother that plays as good as you and , damn has a good voice too!!! Take care man!!!

  120. andrew Says:

is it that hes using open strings and keeping it simple?

  121. Isaac Sydenham Says:

I think the only secret to playing the guitar is just the feeling and how your feeling when you play, for instance some guitarists could play a guitar that cost a tenner and make it sound beautiful but as a 13 year old kid and not fully experienced i wouldnt know but during my 9 yera sof playing i have seen crappy guitars that have been made to sound absolutly amazing!

I have no idea what i’m supposed to be looking for. I can see about 4 things that could be the answer,
    1. Using open strings as an advantage.
    2. Being able to pull off well.
    3. When you hit a note you have your fingers close to fret, not in the middle.
    4. Moving your fingers as little as possible when moving from fret to fret.

  132. Juan Catherine (Sr. Cathy) Says:

my guess: he is using same finger position pattern ,with a slight twist of wrist and then moves same Pattern on frtbord finish with single finger moving up on low notes.

  138. Bud Says:

The secret is alternate tunings like dropped D or double. G etc..

  139. Matthew Williams Says:

It seems to me as if he is tuned to an alternate C maj by raising his B string to C, dropping his D string to C, and lowering his A string to G. I don’t hear him using the low E string which is probably still E like the high string because E is the 3rd of C maj. Alternate tunings can help make certain phrase much easier to play then in standard and also open up some melodic phrases that you normally wouldnt find in a standard tuning, exspecially when playing in the key of an open tuning or one of my favorites, in the key of the relative 5th to the alternate/open tuning. It also makes for a greater use of open strings simply because they already spell out the chord or a chord in the key you are playing.
Well this is my guess or opinion.

  140. Wyatt Teubert Says:

Drop the A string to G and use open G tuning

I don’t think it’s a different tuning, just using the open strings as a drone, and playing lots of unison notes, with good hammering-on and -off.

  196. Jake Says:

The secret i think is learning the song slowly. learning where to put your fingers and once you got that you can play to the song.

  197. wayne cuff Says:

I think that I am a Intermediate guitar player and I love Jazz and texas swing music, I also play some slow jazz with some progressive chords but the thing what really puzzles me is not knowing how to put it all togather. I guess this is the same story you here all the time, the “GUITAR SECRET” maybe comes from the soul, because you can be very technical with lots of speed but fail to make that note sound very special and from the heart.

  198. Shibby Says:

hes using a tuning that i dont know the name of but its
    D E D G B D . . .. . I forget what its called but its used in a lot of grunge sounding riffs

  199. kalle Says:

    open tuning?

  200. marcie studer Says:

well not sure about any of what your all talking about, but hope to learn soon, there is a lot to this, pray that i will learn it and do well, i realy love the guitar, and always have wanted to play, thanks for showing all these neat things that will help me some time.

  201. tyler Says:

Well, everyone says open tuning, but I think its the way he uses his fingers. He barely ever uses his pinky finger, and usually through the chords, he doesnt move his fingers, he just moves it down the fret board a little (unless it was a long note)

  202. sarah Says:

honestly i dont know im not very good when it comes to guitars but i guess it must have something to do with the tuning

  203. singer Says:

    pull offs and slides

  204. Diesel Dave Says:

i believe its like harmonics similar to a twelve string but doing it on a six string.

  205. Smokin Says:

major Pull off with slide ,looks and sounds cool.

  206. Tom Daley Says:

He is using open tuning but by understanding the fretboard as well as he does, he is able to follow the scale and play in the key that sounds good and knows what open strings are in the scale. The big secret is being able to understand the fretboard.

  207. Bill Says:

Looks like you are strumming and picking and flicking strings with your frett hand. Some sliding also. I only started to learn chords last week,,lol ??????

  208. dan Says:

    open tuning

  209. Robert andrews Says:

hey sounds pretty good, its open tuning in a you could change a few strings and leave 1 and 2 in e or just reg. open tuning of e a c# a c# e or e a c# e a c# theres alot of different ways to change it around c# a e a c# e each giving different openness and diff.finger positions.Might not be the best on your instrument though especially if you use mediums.Id say he uses light

  210. Robert andrews Says:

changed my mind, hes playing in c tuning 2 string to c and 1 could also be in c or e or tune just to open c.He sounds like hes dropping the a to g giving it kinda ascending scale like sound when he strums

  211. steve Says:

thats really nice hey. i like that. i think the trick is what your doing with your strumming hand, ie. flicking the fingers over the strings to get that brrring happening. i havnt seen that before

  212. Jack Says:

Did you tune your guitar to the E chord when playing all strings open? I guess this is called open tuning.

  213. Vern Ford Says:

    hammer and open tuning

  214. Randster Says:

I got it! It’s “Terrett syndrom” his hand can’t stay on the neck everytime he picks a tune making mysterous sounds! Naw, just kidding……….sounds like a simple open tuning in whatever, and you can go all day with open tuning.Fun stuff,I’ve written all kinds of easy tunes with open tuning. The Randster

  215. Jerry Says:

Clearly an open tuning of some kind. I like the hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides - giving the piece a sense of narrative and development.

  216. paul Says:

    open tuning
Sounds a bit like Rich Robinson’s song “answers ” from his album “Paper.”

  217. Cindy T. Says:

Ok im not as good as he is , But I learned by my self so whats an
‘open tuning’ Do you Tune your Guit with whatever every body says your using ?

  218. Jon Says:

I gave this some thought and played around with some different tunings
and I think you have the E string tuned to D otherwise standard.
We cant see what the right hand is doing! the left is using hammers, pull off’s
slides and plucking/strumming. I had a lot of fun last night with this and produced something very similar. This tuning is very easy to adjust to, secret
    not any more, thanks

  219. Linda Says:

I have no idea, maybe alternate tuning, I would love to know the secret!

  220. Baydon Says:

I agree with the other comments that the secret is the open tuning. Sound like new strings too!

I also agree with Cob that he had added a lot of flash with his exaggerated arm movements :) Older players like me have to conserve our energy :)

Nice bit of picking though, thanks.

  221. Jim. Says:

    Haven`t got a clue

  222. Terry Says:

    Open tuning

  223. shonshon Says:

the secret is love.. yes man/guitar love.. HA!

  224. dave Says:

I really don’t know what the secret is.I see a lot of people say it’s a open or alternate tuning, but it looks like your playing some of the practice progressions and utilizing sides, hammer ons,and pull offs in combinations.Lookslike it would be a good nervous system practice.

  225. Henry Says:

using hammr ons, slides and pull offs

  226. Tom Says:

I find, with the guitar tuned in the normal way, Claude picks at times single and double held, and open strings to acheive this sound.

  227. Derrick Says:

hes just using hammer ons and pull offs and slides

  228. william Says:

Open tuning… maybe tuned to E?

  229. David Says:

    hammer on’s and pull offs

  230. steve hewitt Says:

I have absolutely no idea!! is it a combination of a few things, pull offs, slides, finger-picking?? or have you just invented something yourself,
Anyway it sounds good, GO ON TELL US HOW TO DO IT!!!!
    Thanks Steve

  231. jayden Says:

  232. Franz Says:
